Firwin can supply special sound insulation
products. These products are made from foam composites, rock-wool
panels and fiberglass with sound membranes, designed to limit equipment
noise to acceptable levels.
Once we understand your needs, we will recommend the materials best
suited to maximize the noise reduction in your work place.
Panels
We supply:
1. Acoustic Rock-wool panel liners for engine compartments &
engine rooms.
2. Mass loaded Acoustic vinyl’s combined with foam decouplers/absorbers
specially designed for engine enclosure liners and piping. When
using these products, care must be taken to maximize the natural
temperature limitations of the foam and vinyl materials.

Blankets
Where sound enclosures are not practical, due to space considerations,
special sound attenuation blankets can be manufactured. Firwin makes
custom removable blankets to solve a wide range of operating situations
combining energy saving heat insulation (for both high and low temperature
conditions) with sound attenuation. We use a combination of fiberglass
mat for the higher frequency bands, and membrane for lower frequency
bands.
Our standard blankets use 12lb/cuft fiberglass insulation encased
in a silicone impregnated fiberglass outer cover, which has a NRC
factor of 0.75. To improve the sound attenuation especially in the
higher Hertz range, we combine loaded membranes with the glass matt.
Normally we use 2" thick blankets and dependent on the application
and specific site restrictions have achieved up to 8-10 dB overall
reduction.
A. Engine and exhausts; Exhaust temperature up
to 1100F [590C]
B. Industrial
Examples of sound attenuation applications that we manufacture are
valve covers, screw pumps, vacuum equipment, sound screens and ducting.
Depending on the octave bandwidth requirement, we make basic blankets
or special composite blankets to obtain the acceptable level of
sound attenuation.
Composite blankets are only used in cases where regular enclosures
are not practical (because space is at a premium).
